Welcome to Block & Bridle Veterinary Service! We are glad that you have chosen us to provide your animals with superior veterinary care. In March of 2002, Dr. Wendy Simmons founded Block & Bridle and began practicing veterinary medicine in northern Colorado. Since that day, the practice has grown to include Weld County and portions of Larimer County. We offer a wide variety of services to help maintain the health and happiness of your animal. In addition to equine medicine and surgery, Block & Bridle specializes in equine lameness and equine dentistry. A variety of small animal services are also offered to accomodate your small animal medical needs.  We also offer a 24-hour emergency service in order to accommodate those unexpected incidences. Please visit our website at blockandbridlevets.com to obtain up-to-date information about recent events in the veterinary field and about the clinic.

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to the staff of veterinarians and specialists who will be taking care of your animals.

  Dr. Wendy Simmons
Born and raised on a ranch in Laramie, Wyoming, Dr. Wendy Simmons has been actively involved with horses her entire life. Before pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Wyoming. Dr. Simmons graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in the spring of 2000. Upon graduation, Dr. Simmons began work at an equine clinic in Littleton, Colorado. There, she gained the knowledge necessary to specialize in equine lameness. In 2002, Dr. Simmons and her husband, Jake, moved to Greeley where they opened Block & Bridle Veterinary Service. They now share their home with a menagerie of animals, including horses, cats, dogs and chickens. In her spare time, Dr. Simmons enjoys camping and riding her horses.

  Jake Simmons, CEqD

As a certified equine dentist, Jake performs a majority of the equine dentistry within the practice.  In 1996, Jake completed equine dentistry training and education at World Wide Equine and earned his certification. Jake has been involved with horses for much of his life, including a successful steer wrestling rodeo career. He credits his years of competing in rodeos with his ability to understand a horse’s physical needs and how to keep them in optimal condition.  In his spare time, Jake enjoys camping, hunting, fishing and archery.

  Dr. Rebecca Goodwin
Born and raised in Colorado, Dr. Rebecca Goodwin has spent a majority of her life around horses.  From rodeo arenas and show rings to a cattle ranch, Rebecca became interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine at an early age.  From its inaugural year, she has been a member of the Block & Bridle team as a veterinary assistant.  Rebecca began her career in equine medicine by receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Equine Sciences from Colorado State University.  She continued her education at CSU by earning her doctor of veterinary medicine in 2009.  After completing an equine internship at Oakridge Equine Hospital in Oklahoma, Rebecca returned to Block & Bridle to help expand the growing practice.  In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys camping, hiking and riding horses.

  Judi McKenzie
As the office manager at Block & Bridle, Judi is always hard at work! With over 30 years of office management experience, Judi keeps the practice running smoothly and allows the doctors to focus on their veterinary work, rather than the paperwork. Having been raised around horses in Oregon, Judi was able to cultivate a passion for horses.  It was not until Judi and her husband, Rod, moved from California to Greeley that she was able to indulge in her love of horses. Judi is semi-retired and now works part-time for Block and Bridle.

  Nicole Taylor
Nikki has been involved with veterinary medicine for over eight years. Having worked as an assistant at both large and small animal veterinary hospitals, Nikki is a true asset to the Block & Bridle team.  As a veterinary assistant, Nikki assists the doctors with appointments and surgical procedures, allowing for more efficient scheduling.  In her spare time, she enjoys training and riding her horses.  Nicole graduated from Colorado State University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Sciencees and Biomedical Sciences. She is currently pursing further education within the medical field.
